Above are some behind-the-scenes snaps of my little show opening in a couple of days (see previous post). They’re from the last three pieces I finished this week. For my friends–I really hope you can make it! This exhibit was a little over half a year in the making. I struggled with myself for months in the process (so much angst and confusion, but luckily it gave way to a clearing in the end!). Beyond any unifying style or theme, I hope this exhibit shows my humble progress as an artist, and my growth as an individual. I want to show a range of work that chronicles all the learnings and adventures I’ve taken this year.

Thinking about my own mom always brings to mind one of the more memorable stages in her life–as a single young woman in the ’70s, she was stylish (and had the smallest waistline EVER), smart, active, and every way a go-getter. But being a mother didn’t stop her from pursuing her dreams, which she shares with us with an immense generosity to this day. I wonder about the time I’ll become a mom myself, and whether I’ll even be half the admirable woman she was. These drawings are all dedicated to her (as well as all the moms and mother-figures I know), whose love for me has endured and blossomed through the years. I love you, Ma!

First things first–a Happy New Year (and Happy Lunar New Year) to everyone!

I just got back from blogging hiatus, and I’d like to share the biggest (and most fun) project I had in 2010, a collaboration I am still so happy about to this day! (I mentioned this collab in a previous post.) Here is Heima‘s Collection 2.0 catalog, which I art directed in October last year!

The catalog launched in November last year. I absolutely love how it turned out!

Finding my own voice and style, fashion and illustration-wise, has been a long personal journey.

But it really all came together just a few years ago when I embarked on a short-lived (albeit immensely fulfilling and adventure-filled) career in media and publishing. I was not only exposed to so many beautiful things and possibilities, but I learned how to edit, style, and own a perspective. I’ve had a lot of influences throughout this journey, with everything culminating into who I am today.

P.S. I am in love with my new Lumix GF1. I’ve decided to call her Lenka. She just turned one week old!
